To Sleep and Dream

I’m not asking for a lot
I just want to have the chance to dream
I’m not looking for a miracle
I just want to close my eyes and sleep
I’m so tired
My head is so sore
Eyes burn
And it won’t stop
Won’t go away
Leave me alone
Let me rest
For just once
I’m not asking for a lot
I just want to have the chance to dream
I’m not looking for a miracle
I just want to close my eyes and sleep
It would be so
Very nice to
Lie down and
Close my eyes
Dream all night
Warm and soft
No worries to
Keep me up
I’m not asking for a lot
I just want to have the chance to dream
I’m not looking for a miracle
I just want to close my eyes and sleep
It’s not happening
I can’t make
Myself shut down
Can’t ignore everything
And it hurts
To feel this cold
Trying so hard
To keep it together
I’m not asking for a lot
I just want to have the chance to dream
I’m not looking for a miracle I just want to close my eyes and sleep
I just want to close my eyes
And sleep forever in my dreams
I’m not asking for a lot
I just want to have the chance to dream
I’m not looking for a miracle
I just want to close my eyes and sleep

Journey to Home

What is a God?
Something we blame
For our mistakes
When we’re happy
We dance
When we’re angry
We scream
When we’re sad
We cry
What use is a God?
Fear of death?
False piety is more
insulting than honest atheism
We are made from stardust
When we look up, our
Brethren are above

Perhaps this is why we
See a home up there
Waiting for us all

The Grief of the Bells

There’s a bell tolling
I can hear the sound
Rolling over the hills
Carried on the wind
The sound is haunting
It means the end of us
The world is going to turn
And who knows where it will stop
The past is leaving
The present hurts so much
When the future arrives
What will it become for me
The wind whispers to me
Trying to tell me its secrets
But all I want is to bury my head
And pretend everything’s the same
Instead, we’re caught in the tide
We’re listening to the ringing
Of the bells as they chime
Why do they sound so sad
The past is leaving
The present hurts so much
When the future arrives
What will it become for me
I should know what comes next
Will be better than what is now
Happy to leave, to finally forget
I can’t help but wonder instead
Why can’t I ever hold on when
Everything is going well, the days
Shining and clear, my summertime
Here, then gone, then forever lost
The past is leaving
The present hurts so much
When the future arrives
What will it become for me
There could be happy times
Waiting for me just up ahead Yet I sit and wish it was yesterday Because I know for sure that was perfect
Forever in my memories
The past is leaving
The present hurts so much
When the future arrives
What will it become for me

Shadows

The shadows are here
They march down the streets
Crying out, but no one hears
The shadows are calling
Darkness is answering
They’re dancing now
When the shadows strike
Silence and steel scream
There’s nowhere to run
What are the shadows
Saying, why are they
Whispering secrets to no one
Burning and fighting
The shadows will not leave
They do not bleed or die

Why are they weeping
The shadows cannot sleep
It’s so empty inside of here

History

See them coming
Glory to the Hounds
Watch them leave
Death to the stars
What we sow
Into the earth
Is ash and ruin
Raze the ground
Pollute the sky
Poison the water
Pound, pound the drums
Cover your ears and hum
Blow, blow the horns
Close your eyes and pray
Plant the seeds
Water them well
Give them time
Build the future
Heal the sick
Write the history
Celebrate the triumphs
Forget everything of the past

Teach the children
Tell them only the truth
