We Hold These Truths

I just want you to know that it’s fine to hate yourself. To think you are weak, selfish, unkind, etc. Only when you’re dissatisfied with yourself will you seek out improvements. Be harsh. Be critical. Honesty can be cruel, but self-reflection is the only path to change. Feel your doubts and fears, and rise above them all. One day, you will look back on your old self with kindness and gratitude. With a little more wisdom than before. One day, you will love yourself.
So feel free to hate yourself today, and maybe even tomorrow. There’s no better way to learn and grow.

Teaching You

Harsh and hard is not the only way
Stay a little longer
There’s so much more than you’ve been taught
Let me teach you kindness
Why don’t more people know
That softness will take you further
Because it’s so easy to love
Someone who treats you well
Sometimes it takes so much effort
Just to make a smile
When all I feel like is screaming
But just watch someone’s face
When you’re nice instead
And you'll know it was worth it
The effort of being kind
Makes you feel like a better person
And then soon you are
So stay here for now
I’ll teach you softness
Your eyes are so wide
In wonder and fear
I want you to know
That it’s okay to care
No one’s going to betray you here
Maybe some day you’ll feel safe
You’ll feel lighter than ever before
I know what you’ve been taught
The lessons you learned in the past
Why you flinch when you’re touched
The words you still can’t say to anyone
Harshness hurts, but kindness does too
The difference is in your tears
One is cold and the other is warm
So much it can melt the past off of you
Gentle and slow is the way to go
Nothing is ever the same after
Amazing to relax and to love myself
So wonderful to feel alive again

Harsh and hard is not the only way
Stay a little longer
There’s so much more than you’ve been taught
Let me teach you kindness

Create

Hard to let go
When there’s nothing
To grasp onto
No way out of here
Shadows fall and stay
Grit under your
Fingernails
Hold on deep
Don’t let go
Heave and ho
Until the day breaks
Got to take the leap
No safety net underneath
Just breathe and jump
Into the cold wind
Eyes wide open to the abyss
Blood in your
Mouth
Teeth clenched hard
Muscles straining
Trembling with effort
Weak from disuse
Got to make it count
Each and every day
Or everything’s meaningless
No point in pretending
No more waiting around
You’re capable of succeeding
You can accomplish all your goals
Just remember what you sacrifice
In the creation of your dream

Graveyard

Just climb on
It’s the only thing left
There’s nothing else
For you here anymore
Climb over the bodies
And under the hills
Around the cliffs and
Into the graveyards
Push a little more
Ignore the bodies behind you
Rotting in the ground
It’s all in the past now
Climb over the bodies
And under the hills
Around the cliffs and
Into the graveyards
Pull yourself up
Out of the pit
Breathe the air
Free from blood
Climb over the bodies
And under the hills
Around the cliffs and
Into the graveyards
Trip and stumble
But don’t stop and look back
Be careful of the path but
Don’t ever glance down
Climb over the bodies
And under the hills
Around the cliffs and
Into the graveyards
Look ahead
Search the horizon
Find the path you need
Never see what’s beneath your feet
Climb over the bodies
And under the hills
Around the cliffs and Into the graveyards
Climb over the bodies
And under the hills
Around the cliffs and
Into the graveyards

If you notice
All the things you sacrifice
You’ll give up and destroy
And let your dream die
