The Grief of the Bells

There’s a bell tolling
I can hear the sound
Rolling over the hills
Carried on the wind
The sound is haunting
It means the end of us
The world is going to turn
And who knows where it will stop
The past is leaving
The present hurts so much
When the future arrives
What will it become for me
The wind whispers to me
Trying to tell me its secrets
But all I want is to bury my head
And pretend everything’s the same
Instead, we’re caught in the tide
We’re listening to the ringing
Of the bells as they chime
Why do they sound so sad
The past is leaving
The present hurts so much
When the future arrives
What will it become for me
I should know what comes next
Will be better than what is now
Happy to leave, to finally forget
I can’t help but wonder instead
Why can’t I ever hold on when
Everything is going well, the days
Shining and clear, my summertime
Here, then gone, then forever lost
The past is leaving
The present hurts so much
When the future arrives
What will it become for me
There could be happy times
Waiting for me just up ahead Yet I sit and wish it was yesterday Because I know for sure that was perfect
Forever in my memories
The past is leaving
The present hurts so much
When the future arrives
What will it become for me
